Counselling and Number Games - 1

A tensed welcome to all readers!
Before I start writing, I would like to confirm one thing - I am writing about medical counselling only, in this post! That's the worst thing I came across recently. The 'system' of counselling followed in Anna University for engineering is absolutely fine. The best ones get the best seats, so no problem with that!
MEDICAL COUNSELLING...
I don't know what wrong the students did this year 2011. No one knows how many colleges
are available this year! It's a real shame, considering all the previous headaches the students had to go through for their board exams...
Ok, leave that! Coming to the system, the candidates are called based on reservations and NOT on the basis of their marks (unlike Engineering counselling where the students are called according to cut-offs!)
The fateful schedule started on July 1. I think about 400 candidates are called for filling 'OC' seats. God knows what wrong the people belong to OC did! All the caste people are allowed to fill OC seats only on day 1. This system would have worked fine in 1950 (Even this is arguable, the system sucks as a whole, any day!), not in 2011! There is NO bar on the cut-off! The call is based on the rankings, with DATE OF BIRTH as tie-breaker I think. What the hell! On day 1, most of the OC seats in BIG government colleges like MMC, KMC, Stanley Medical, etc. are filled... Good bye OC people!

Day 2, second half, the counselling is BC people. Now starts the real fun. They can fill even OC seats AND BC seats! This would mean that OC seats can be reduced without OC people at all on day 2!
"It's something like OC seats are for free service on all days. All are welcome!"
And SUNDAY was a holiday...!
In the following days, there was nothing encouraging to be said. Some seats came, some seats went - for both OC and BC, I have no idea why the seats reduced for these two categories even though they did not 'participate' in the counselling! For SC and ST and BCM people, it was an all happy affair. They could get seats as they liked. It is true that some people really struggled to get marks. On the other hand, there were many people who just 'exploited' the reservations. If you could really analyze, there are more people in the second category I just mentioned! Not many struggle these days!
On the contrary, in the engineering counselling, the 'reservation' system is not much of a nightmare for the OC candidates - the students are called based on the cut-offs and not on the basis of caste. In this case also, there are a few problems but they are not as severe as is the case for medical counselling. Here it just somehow seems justified!
A bigger issue the students faced this year was that, they never knew how many medical colleges (government AND private) existed!
I will cover more serious problems in the next post! Until then, enjoy the engineering seat! :D
